August 27, 2026:
Apple has partially fixed the issues with the Mac App Store we reported on August 25 (see below). All features have become available again for users of the following operating systems:

OS X 10.10 Yosemite
OS X 10.11 El Capitan
macOS 10.12 Sierra
macOS 10.13 High Sierra
macOS 10.14 Mojave

You can log in to the App Store, Apps can also be launched and be re-downloaded again. (The operating systems macOS 10.15 and later had not been affected by any of the aforementioned issues.)

App Store support for the operating systems OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and OS X 10.9 Mavericks appears to have been lost, however. Communication with Apple's servers doesn't work any longer. This follows the shutdown of the App Store for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and Mac OS X 10.7 Lion which occurred in February 2023.

August 26, 2026:
Apple releases new software via macOS Software Update:

Apple XProtect Configuration Data version 5357 for OS X 10.11 to macOS 10.14 (Update Product ID: 142-05018)
Apple XProtect Configuration Data version 5357 for macOS Catalina and later (Update Product ID: 142-05019)

XProtect is part of the built-in antivirus software of macOS. The package does not appear in the Software Update section of System Preferences (or App Store in older versions of the operating system). macOS is updating the software automatically in the background if you have granted the system permission to download system data files and security-related files.

August 25, 2026:
Apple has locked out users of older operating systems from the Mac App Store (again). The last time this happened was February 6, 2025.
Our quality assurance tests indicate that important services of the App Store are currently inaccessible for users still running one of the following operating systems:

OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
OS X 10.9 Mavericks
OS X 10.10 Yosemite (may work fine under specific circumstances)
OS X 10.11 El Capitan
macOS 10.12 Sierra
macOS 10.13 High Sierra
macOS 10.14 Mojave

This can have one or all of the following consequences:

An attempt to access the store results in a heavily flickering App Store window.
You cannot sign in to the App Store.
You can no longer download apps you have purchased in the past.
Specific interactions with the App Store result in error messages similar to “bad server request: 400” or “server error: 500”.

At the moment, it is unclear whether this is a temporary failure or a planned shutdown. Apple had discontinued support of the App Store for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and Mac OS X 10.7 Lion in February 2023 already.

Please note that we are technically unable to help if your old macOS installation refuses to download App Store apps from us or other vendors. We have no access either. You need to contact Apple for further support.

August 14, 2026:
We are releasing TinkerTool System 9 version 9.92:

User guidance when adding new volumes to customized settings has been revised.
Outdated references to LIFS have been updated to Apple FSKit.
The feature to determine the data set for planning macOS updates has been unified again. Operating system versions before and after macOS 26.3 are no longer handled separately and show the same information.
Fixed an issue where the current status of SMB signing was omitted when presenting the current parameters of a file server connection.

SafeView is an internal utility that macOS customers can use to share their screens via Internet with service representatives from Apple or AppleCare. It allows remote access for support purposes. This software is not available to the general public.
