May 24, 2025:
Due to a critical design flaw in the user interface of
the Mac App Store and its CommerceKit services,
situations could occur where the App Store requested a refresh
of your purchase information while launching
up-to-date versions of any of our apps. In this
situation, the store would “steal” the icon of our app
and request a login with your Apple Account credentials
next to the windows of the affected app, pretending the
login would be part of that app. This resulted in the
misleading impression our apps would be asking for your
account data or could see account details, which might
be interpreted as a phishing
attempt.
We have filed an official complaint
with Apple regarding this ill-considered App Store
behavior.
As an immediate measure, we release updated
versions of our App Store apps that quit themselves
immediately when they detect this App Store issue,
hereby proving they are not responsible or associated
with such login requests. The following updates are
available via the App Store:
- Autostarter (version 2.1)
- Battery Monitor (version 5.4)
- JPEG Photo File Date (version 1.3)
- PropEdit (version 1.2)
- System Monitor (version 6.3)

We are releasing TinkerTool System
9 version 9.6:
- Added new feature on the Maintenance pane to perform Safe Erase operations for magnetic disks. Apple had removed this function from the macOS user interface as of version 15 Sequoia.
- Added new feature on the Files pane to find all dataless objects on a Mac. Cloud solutions such as iCloud use this APFS function to implement local placeholders for files where the actual contents are currently offline. Keeping objects in a cloud only for an extended period of time may cause several issues and should be avoided.
- Fixed a problem where the new bug detection for blocked downloads of macOS installers did not show the intended error message on Intel-based Macs.
- Fixed a problem where keeping TinkerTool System open after searching for deeply nested folders that exceeded the maximum path length could prevent sleep mode.
TinkerTool System 9 is a collection of system utility features helping you in performing advanced administration tasks on Apple Macintosh computers.
