Apple releases new software via macOS Software Update:
- Apple XProtect Configuration Data version 5325 for OS X 10.11 to macOS 10.14 (Update Product ID: 089-98101)
- Apple XProtect Configuration Data version 5325 for macOS Catalina and later (Update Product ID: 089-98102)
XProtect is part of the built-in antivirus software of macOS. The package does not appear in the Software Update section of System Preferences (or App Store in older versions of the operating system). macOS is updating the software automatically in the background if you have granted the system permission to download system data files and security-related files.
December 15, 2025:
We are releasing TinkerTool
version 11.4:
- The user interface was cleaned up to remove outdated options. Several previously hidden preference settings which have become an officially advertised part of macOS are no longer shown as part of TinkerTool. The FAQ document was revised accordingly.
- Fixed a minor layout problem when the warning about incorrect privacy settings was shown on the Safari pane.
TinkerTool is an application that gives you access to additional preference settings Apple has built into macOS. This allows to activate hidden features in the operating system and in some of the applications delivered with the system.
December 12, 2025:
We are releasing TinkerTool System
9 version 9.85:
- Added necessary changes to correctly support macOS 26.2.
- The assistant to select the time interval for querying the log database of macOS was significantly revised and its features have been simplified.
- After 5 years, the “modern” implementation of Time Machine is now considered the default. This will cause TinkerTool System to automatically offer the Time Machine pane instead of the Time Machine “X” pane in cases where Time Machine is failing. This policy change makes it possible to further diagnose such issues with the log feature.
- The documentation takes into account Apple’s changed procedure for downloading installation apps for macOS Tahoe.
- The documentation takes into account the modified behavior of the recovery system for macOS Tahoe.

operating systems and web browsers. In addition, changes
to macOS 26.2 include:
- Edge Light video effect uses the Mac display to illuminate your face like a virtual ring light when you’re on a video call in low light
- Customizable light width and temperature give you control over how you’re lit
- Mouse awareness ensures that the light recedes when you need to access content underneath
- Option to have the light turn on automatically in low light situations on Mac computers introduced in 2024 and later
- Automatically generated chapters make it easier to navigate more episodes
- Links to mentioned podcasts let you see and follow other podcasts mentioned in the episode you’re listening to directly from the player and transcript
- Filters in the Games library let you find games by category, size, and more
- In-game challenge score banners provide real-time updates when someone new has taken the lead
- Connected controller support
- AirDrop codes offer an additional layer of verification when using AirDrop with unknown contacts by providing a code on the receiver’s device that the sender must enter to complete the transfer
- Apple News Section links in the sidebar of the News app offer easy navigation to popular topics like Sports, Politics, Business, and Food
- Tables in Freeform can hold text, images, documents, and drawings, with cells that intelligently resize to fit, bringing structure to the infinite canvas
- Favorite Songs playlist appears in Top Picks in Apple Music
- Fixes an issue where pre-release albums in the library were not immediately playable at their release time
