Apple releases new software via macOS Software Update:
- Apple XProtect Configuration Data version 5336 for OS X 10.11 to macOS 10.14 (Update Product ID: 122-17622)
- Apple XProtect Configuration Data version 5336 for macOS Catalina and later (Update Product ID: 122-17623)
XProtect is part of the built-in antivirus software of macOS. The package does not appear in the Software Update section of System Preferences (or App Store in older versions of the operating system). macOS is updating the software automatically in the background if you have granted the system permission to download system data files and security-related files.

We are releasing TinkerTool
version 11.5:
- Added new setting to hide the additional “Tahoe-style” icons in menu items if they have no direct benefit. This affects all macOS-compliant applications and is part of the General pane.
- Added new setting to disable the pop-up icon of the typing assistant when switching between input sources (keyboard layouts). This is part of the General pane.
- Added missing icons to all menu items (which can now be switched off).
TinkerTool is an application that gives you access to additional preference settings Apple has built into macOS. This allows to activate hidden features in the operating system and in some of the applications delivered with the system.

- Added support to correctly identify the new super cores when monitoring processor load on Macintosh models with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors.
- Several small additions to the reference manual.

Plus version 2.9:
- Added full support for MacBook Neo.
- Added full support for MacBook Air (13-inch, M5).
- Added full support for MacBook Pro (14-inch, M5 Pro).
- Added full support for MacBook Pro (16-inch, M5 Pro).
- Added full support for MacBook Pro (16-inch, M5 Max).
- Added preliminary support for MacBook Air (15-inch, M5).

- The characteristic temperature sensor selected to be shown in the menu bar has changed for model series with simple M5 processors.
- For specific model series, the characteristic temperature sensor shown in the menu bar was not included in the sensor monitor menu. This policy has changed. This can affect Macintosh models with M3 Ultra, M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max processors.
System Monitor Plus is a free add-on for System Monitor. After simply copying it to your computer, many additional features become available which are not permitted to be directly included in Apps from the Mac App Store.

Monitor version 2.9:
- The application has a new icon to maintain full compatibility with macOS 26 Tahoe and later.
- Added support for Macs with M5 processors containing Super Cores.
- Added a workaround for a technical defect of macOS 26 Tahoe where Liquid Glass could cause cluster labels in the processor monitor window not to be shown.
- Added a workaround for a technical defect of macOS 26 Tahoe where the system could return invalid names for interrupt vectors on Macs with Intel processors. This could cause the application to stop responding when the interrupt monitoring window was opened.
- Fixed a problem where the application could crash upon start on computers with M5 Pro or M5 Max processors.
- Fixed a problem where CPU core load readings could be shown with misleading values if the associated processor cluster was partially switched off during the sampling interval. This only affects specific processor types.
Mac Power Monitor is a graphical, easy-to-use interface for the energy and power measuring features of macOS.

Apple releases temporary software patches as Background
Security Improvements:

The updates address critical security issues in the operating systems, in particular CVE-2026-20643: Processing maliciously crafted web content may bypass Same Origin Policy.
Warning: Other than advertised, the software is not really installed unnoticeable “in the background”. If automatic installation of Background Security Improvements is enabled, the operating system may perform an automatic, unattended restart of the computer at 02:01:00 a.m. in the local time zone to install the patch. This could cause data loss and local denial of service.

We are releasing TinkerTool System
9 version 9.87:
- Added new feature to delay the announcement of macOS software updates by up to 90 days after their release. Individual delays can be set for minor updates and upgrades that switch between operating system generations (for example from Sequoia to Tahoe). Affected pending notifications are automatically removed by macOS. The settings are available on the Issues pane.
- Added new features to support apps using the Mac Catalyst technology, i.e. running software for iPhone or iPad on Macintosh with Apple Silicon. For technical reasons, launching Mac Catalyst apps in different languages cannot be supported at the moment. Mac Catalyst apps are now accepted by the following functions:
- cleaning app components via the Uninstallation Assistant
- starting apps with special launch options
- computing a compatibility report
- performing a security check
- running bulk security checks via the Application Integrity feature
- Added support for the evaluation of system background services for upcoming versions of macOS.
- When performing an application security check, the notarization field now shows more detailed information if applicable.
- Added a workaround for a problem where macOS could return invalid Internet links when showing details for a developer check of an application.
- Added a workaround for a problem where macOS could return raw technical data for the details of a packaging error when performing a developer check of an application.
- Fixed a problem where the button for performing a developer check was not shown for some application types.
- Fixed a rare exception status that could occur when mounting or unmounting SMB shares with invalid volume names while TinkerTool System was running.
