TinkerTool 8

August 28, 2025:
We are releasing TinkerTool version 10.6:

  • By request of many users, this version brings back support for the Touch Bar.
  • Enhanced support for preview versions of upcoming operating systems.

TinkerTool is an application that gives you access to additional preference settings Apple has built into macOS. This allows to activate hidden features in the operating system and in some of the applications delivered with the system.

  • Apple XProtect Configuration Data version 5312 for OS X 10.11 to macOS 10.14 (Update Product ID: 093-27146)
  • Apple XProtect Configuration Data version 5312 for macOS Catalina (Update Product ID: 093-27145)

XProtect is part of the built-in antivirus software of macOS. The package does not appear in the Software Update section of System Preferences (or App Store in older versions of the operating system). macOS is updating the software automatically in the background if you have granted the system permission to download system data files and security-related files.

The updates address very critical security issues in the operating systems.

  • Apple SafeView version 10.7 (Update Product ID: 082-75744)
This version fixes incompatibilities with macOS 15.6 and corrects links to download components for AppleCare support (code name "Bomgar Rep Console").
  • Adds compatibility for SafeView on macOS Sequoia 15.6
  • Corrected link for Bomgar Rep Console in CP401115 (Get help with Bomgar) and Self Service
  • Amphora is moving from pilot phase to global rollout
  • Step-by-Step Help for iOS26 is launching as part of Core 25.8. For interactions where settings are gathered, Core will display an RS card enabling Advisors to view Step-by-Step settings from the customer’s iPhone.

SafeView is an internal utility that macOS customers can use to share their screens via Internet with service representatives from Apple or AppleCare. It allows remote access for support purposes. This software is not available to the general public.

August 12, 2025:
We are releasing TinkerTool System 9 version 9.81:

  • The application has a new icon to prepare full compatibility with future versions of macOS.
  • Added new iCloud Protect setting to block access to the “Find My” feature.
  • The dialogs and procedures for activating the Security Component of the application have been simplified because Apple fixed some (but not all) issues with the management of Background Items.
  • Many internal changes to support future versions of macOS.
  • This version fixes a problem where editing user-specific spell checker dictionaries did not work as expected.
  • The search terms for the quick-search feature have been optimized on several panes.
  • The feature to search and to semi-automatically remove old Crash Logs has been removed, because it no longer makes sense in modern versions of macOS. The operating system automatically removes such reports quickly and reliably in the background.
