Hardware Monitor Widget Edition
Quick Start Guide
What is it?
Hardware Monitor Widget Edition is the Dashboard versions of the application Hardware Monitor. The programs are designed to give you access to all sensor readings Mac OS X uses to monitor and cool your computer.
Which computers are supported?
The applications support all sensors for which Apple provides hardware drivers in Mac OS X. Whether your computer is equipped with sensors and drivers depends on the exact model type, the date of production, the hard drive model, and the graphics card, so unfortunately this question cannot be answered in general. Some Macintosh systems have no sensors while others have more than 100 of them. It is recommended to let the “big” applications (Temperature Monitor or Hardware Monitor) analyze your computer before you use the widget editions to learn more about the sensor equipment. Detailed information can be found in the reference manual of the “big” applications.
What's the difference between Hardware Monitor and Temperature Monitor?
Temperature Monitor is a gratis application which gives you access to temperature readings only. Hardware Monitor gives you access to additional sensor types (voltage, current, battery capacity, fan revolution, etc.) but it is necessary to purchase a registration code. Without this code, Hardware Monitor will run in demo mode, giving you temperature readouts only. The demo mode of the “big” Hardware Monitor application will give you a detailed analysis what additional sensors will be supported on your particular computer, showing you the exact difference between Temperature Monitor and Hardware Monitor for your own system.
