The item System Information has no controls but gives you details about the current computer. This includes data not visible in the System Profiler application. Among other items, the following information is displayed:
This additional information window can be opend by pressing the button Details. It is only available on Macintosh systems which either contain personalized microprocessor cards (MPU cards, usually found on PowerMac G5 models), or on Intel-based computers.
The MPU detail panel displays technical information about each G5 processor card. Each card contains data about its serial number, the previous serial number (in case of a repaired or refurbished card), and the mainboard it has been paired with. If the computer is equipped with multiple cards, they can be selected with the buttons at the top right corner.
On computers with Intel-based architecture, system management information will be displayed in the detail window. This includes the following items:
TinkerTool System gives you access to more than 48 log files (in Leopard more than 80) used by Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server to keep track of error conditions which occurred in the past. Information is presented in a two-column browser: In the first column, select the information category or service, in the second column, select the detail report you want to see.
Double-click the entry or press the button Open to display its contents. The text will be loaded into an editor window. Note that you can open as many windows as you like. The log currently in use is presented first. If there are additional archived versions of the log, you can select between them with the pop-up button Archived copies in the lower left corner. The two buttons at the right allow you to save a copy of the log into a new text file or to print its contents.
